Marketing Tips from Seven Okas
Sign up for our free e-newsletter for marketing articles, advice, and tips from the experts at Seven Oaks Consulting. It's free, and of course your information is kept private: we'll never sell or rent your email address to anyone.

We use this system for both our marketing newsletter and our retail venture, EquinArt Creations. Please sign up for the Marketing Newsletter by joining the "Seven Oaks Consulting" group.   The other lists will deliver information on our model horse and equine art business, which is great if you love horses and art collecting, but not so great if you were expecting to learn more about marketing!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

I receive many requests to write articles and websites padded with keywords. If you're thinking of overhauling your website to jump onto the SEO bandwagon, reconsider your marketing options. While everyone should optimize their websites for maximum natural search engine marketing, chucking as many keywords as you can into the writing can ruin your standing with the major search engine companies such as Google and Yahoo.  Read on...

From Our August Newsletter:

The Do's and Don'ts of Search Engine Marketing

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the process by which companies create and use website text to help search engines find their website. If used correctly, companies can raise their search engine rankings in Google, Yahoo and other major engines. If used incorrectly, you'll find your website at the bottom of the heap languishing with the Ugandan lottery scams.  Here are some important Do's and Don'ts of SEO.

DO

  • Research top keywords in your industry using free tools such as Google Analytics and major SEO associations

  • Use keywords on every page of your website.

  • Include contents on your site relevant to your topic

  • Test keywords to see what works best

  • Adjust website copy based on analytics

DON'T

  • Don't pad your site with keywords thinking that if using a keyword phrase five times is good, five hundred times is best. Your site will be perceived as spam and relegated to the bottom of the heap.

  • Don't include tons of articles just as an excuse to use SEO. Use articles only if they are valuable to your audience

  • Don't expect SEO to be the answer to your marketing prayers. While it's important to include it in your marketing strategy, use other techniques to improve site rankings.

OTHER WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR SITE RANKING

  • Link your site to similar sites. Seek associates from trade groups, colleagues, friends, information sites, and other sites and include links when they make sense. Be sure that links are fresh, relevant and timely.

  • Purchase and participate in a keywords ad campaign.

  • Update your website content frequently.

  • Include links from your site to others.

These are just a few tips to help you improve site traffic. For more, please call (434-574-6253) or email Jeanne at Seven Oaks Consulting. We're happy to provide you with a free website evaluation and suggestions to improve your site.
